A brief over view of the summer.
Within this last year of university I will be focusing on Modularity as a main aspect of research. This has stemmed from a current project in year 2. Within the last term of year 2 a team of students and I entered in a competition at the university ( The Brains child project ). Within this project we created the basics for a game that was initially called " Astrum ". After a period of working on the title and attending some Norflok dev meetings we chaned the name of the game to " The Wanderer ". After working for a while on this project previously we are now taking up the reigns in our 3rd year project for both BA7 and BA8. Within the first few studies in this research we have made it very apparent that we are not doing game that has already been made and realised but we are adapting the game to better suite the target market.
For this project I have taken up the role of being lead 3D artist. This are of study has been my most prioratised through the course of my current studies at university. This project is going to prove both Challenging and stimulating for me to undertake as a project.
This is a rough mock up for a scene at the end of year 2.
Studio research: Style for the 3D Models:
Within this project the style we are immitate must relfect somthing can be done within resonably polly count. This is beause the team are hoping to maximise the audience for this game. If we put the game across a vast variety of platforms such as from consoles to mobile devices we can maximise the earning potential for us and the game.
Within the research I have made for modelling to these credentials I have found that anything that has the power of the I phone 3 and above is able to handle roughly 50'000 polygons on the screen. Further research has anabled me to find that the Samsung S4 can handle up to 100'000 polygns on the screen. For this reason the Wanderer's art style has been made to be very low poly, This however should not affect the authenticity of the game play of the visual aesthetics of the games. This is relfected by the fact that The wanderer withh be a 2.5 D platformer.
